That's My Dad
Music - Tom Hirschmann
Lyrics/vocals - David Ray Wehry

THAT'S MY DAD…In his duct-taped easy chair is where he sat,
With a big ole' bowl of popcorn in his lap,
And that is where he always fell asleep.

THAT'S MY DAD…Lifting me up in the barber's chair,
Holding my three year old hand 'cause I was scared,
And brother, my head looked like his, when we left there.

He was a simple man you see, but he had the time for me,
The best friend a kid could ever have…

THAT'S MY DAD…Always giving much more than he'd take,
Except for suppertime, when we had steak,
See his were always the biggest on the plate.

THAT'S MY DAD…Another greasy T-shirt weekend in the garage,
I held the flashlight while he'd fix the Dodge,
'Cause God I loved riding up front with him,

He was a simple man you see, but he had the time for me,
The best friend a kid could ever have…

Now at seventeen I wrecked the car… got a busted lip and a broken arm,
And I thought…"Boy, dad's gonna' kill me."
But when I saw him all he had to say… was "To hell with the car, are you OK…?"
"Well I guess I will be," That's My Dad…

THAT'S MY DAD…Slippin' me some cash when I left home,
'Cause he knows what it's like out on your own.
He said "This is just 'tween you and me...now don't tell your Mom."

THAT'S MY DAD…And it was eighteen years 'fore I could really talk to him,
God knows that I'm not half the man he is,
And I'd give anything, if he and I could go fishing again…

He was a simple man you see, but he had the time for me,
The best friend a kid could ever…..have
